Herbal Correspondences for Inner Strength - Herb Blurbs

This week I wanted to talk about herbal correspondences….particularly those for/related to Inner Strength.  With all that is going on in the world it seems apropos to call on our herbal allies to help keep us vital and strong.  While there are wonderful adaptogenic and tonic herbs like Ashwagandha that we can take to bolster our inner strength, but I want to focus on correspondences and aromatherapeutic properties today for those who may not be able to take herbs internally.

Herbal Correspondences

*These are energetic and magickal properties of the herbs.  These can tie into their medicinal properties, but not necessarily. We can tap into them by using these specific herbs as incense, in ritual and, in my opinion, aromatherapy.

Balsam (Myroxylon balsamum): Strength and grounding/spiritual connection to the earth.  Breaks up negative energy. Helps bring about change.  Scent is rich, earthy and sweet.

Basil (Ocimum basilicum): Uplifting, energizing, and clarifying.  Aids communication in that it helps dispel confusion, fear and weakness.  Can be protective and lucky.   Scent is fresh, “green”, and sweet with just a teeny hint of spice.

Benzoin (Styrax benzoin): Cleansing and purifying.  Promotes strength of will and removes blockages.  Scent rich and sweet, warming and grounding.

Dragon’s Blood (Daemonorops draco): Protection, purification and personal empowerment.  Banishes negative energy. Scent is rich and earthy with a fresh sweetness that doesn’t cloy.  Can be used as ink, too!

Frankincense (Boswellia carterii): Blessing, protection, purification and spiritual opening.  Often used in rituals regarding self-will, self-control and the ego and can represent the ability of the divine to move into manifestation. Calms anxiety and balances mood Scent is rich, bright, light and somewhat lemony.

High John the Conqueror (Ipomea jalapa): Something of an all-purpose herb. High John imbues strength, confidence, protection, luck, and is useful in all rituals pertaining to prosperity, and of course “conquering” any situation….essentially success!  The scent is spicy and earthy but it’s not used commonly as incense, you will see it moreso carried on one’s person (mojo bags, wallets, etc) or used in ritual.

I know there are many more, so if we didn’t include your favorite, let us know in the comments below!
