As the weather warms, and we wander Nature’s winding trails more often, we are more susceptible to exposure to poison oak/ivy, bug bites and other irritants that cause itchy, inflamed conditions. One of our favorite time-tested formulas to ease, calm and relieve these symptoms is East Hill Herbals’ Manzanita Magic. We’d love to celebrate #herbalwisdomwednesday with you and share a bit about the herbs in this consistently effective formula.
Manzanita (Arctostaphylos manzanita) – Used for poison oak relief by native peoples in North America for countless generations, Manzanita leaf teas have disinfectant and soothing properties. The berries are actually edible and should be ripe right around this time of year!
Oregon Grape Root (Mahonia aquifolium) – Powerful antibiotic that has drawing and drying properties to help pull out the toxic oils from your skin.
Plantain (Plantago spp.) – This mighty “weed” is another species that has been used medicinally since time immemorial. It is soothing, drawing, healing and may even have an antihistamine effect.
Chickweed (Stellaria media) – This sweet little star herb provides a soothing presence to this formula. It is extremely nutritive and also makes a wonderful digestive tonic as a tea or fresh herb.
Sage (Salvia officinalis) – Antibacterial, antifungal and antiseptic, Sage also acts as a drawing and soothing agent in this formula.
Thyme (Thymus spp.) - Cleansing and astringent, Thyme helps to draw out the urushiol oils from your skin.
