Hello, bright and shining Moonbeams! Welcome to this week’s edition of Tarot & Tea with Jessika TuCrow. Drawn from the breathtaking and fantastical Shadowscapes Tarot, our card for this week is Judgment. This is a heavy card, but the message is here is about how to release that heaviness. Sometimes it becomes critical to really evaluate a situation honestly and make a tough call. Once we see things in the light of renewed clarity, it is possible to awaken to previously unperceived possibilities. The inevitability of transformation brings us renewed hope of a fresh start. Judgment represents a moment of truth when we realize what we must do and make the decision to move forward with inner conviction. In this, we find absolution and the strength to forgive ourselves and others. We may make a choice to atone for past mistakes in order to unburden our souls and discover the joy of a fresh start.
Rather than one of our usual tea blends, I have chosen to create an herbal tea blend for spiritual bathing to go along with the Judgment card. The blend I have created is that of Hyssop, Peppermint, and Lemon Verbena. The purpose of this medicine is to cleanse the soul and bring clarity to the spirit. Hyssop is mentioned in the Bible as the herb that King David used to cleanse himself of wrong actions, and thus gained a reputation in Christian folk magic as being effective for the absolution of sins. Peppermint is used to help open our being so that we can best release negativity, as well as to bring a sense of uplifting clarity. Lemon Verbena is used in folk magic powerful spiritual cleansing agent and has the added benefit of gently encouraging self-love. The procedure for spiritual bathing is as follows: brew a large pot of strong tea with the herbs. Draw a bath and add the tea to it. Bless the enhanced bathwater with the intention to purify and refresh your being. Place two white candles on the edge of the tub and light them, stepping between them as you enter the tub. Bathe yourself thoroughly using only downward strokes, working your way from the top of your head down to the soles of your feet. Allow the water to flow out of the tub and visualize what you are releasing with it. Step between the candles as you exit the tub and rejoice, for you are starting anew!
This week’s featured deck is Stephanie Pui-Mun Law’s Shadowscapes Tarot. The feel of this deck is dreamlike, with richly symbolic and fantastical imagery rendered in vibrant watercolor and ink. Prominent elements depicted on these cards are spiraling seashells, a surreal aviary, feisty foxes, and fairy faces peeking out of every nook and cranny. Each card is like a dream that you can enter by meditation on its lovely face. This is honestly one of the most beautiful Tarot decks I have ever used! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
